Job Details: Counselor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Responsible directly to the Clinical Director for performing counseling related duties and the initial facilitation of clients received in the Southside Behavioral Lifestyle Enrichment Center.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  1. Provides or coordinates all services needed for the rehabilitation of all clients assigned to his/her caseload. This includes knowledge of community resources and proper use and referral to Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for Employment and Training.
  2. Each counselor must meet with all clients that are assigned to his/her caseload weekly for individual and group counseling unless the client has been approved for bi-monthly contact. No client may receive less than bi-monthly contact.
  3. Each counselor is responsible for maintaining the completeness and accuracy of all the client’s records that are assigned to his/her caseload following Quality Assurance Standards, and for reviewing the medical notes for current methadone dose and follow-up of reported medical problems. In addition, each counselor must write an annual clinical justification for continuation of treatment.
  4. Each counselor is responsible for preparing all appropriate MHMRIS forms as they apply to his/her caseload, updating the Basic Intake form annually or as you become aware of changes and filling out the Enrollment and Release form, when appropriate.
  5. Each counselor is responsible for collecting random urine samples on all clients and entering data on clients in the Methasoft system.
  6. Each counselor will be responsible for performing other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Clinical Director.
  7. Serves as chairperson or member of various program committees.
  8. Presents weekly formal reports on minimum counseling sessions.
  9. Complies with all federal, state and program regulation guidelines and policy and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of the effects of drugs.
  2. Must be familiar with city, state, and federal regulations.
  3. Ability to communicate with the public.
  4. Ability to counsel patients.
  5. Ability of writing accurate reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

M.A. Degree of Psychology, guidance and counseling or social work with a minimum of one (1) year experience in working with drug-dependent individuals. B.S. Degree in Psychology, counseling, social work or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years experience in Substance Abuse.  Licensed as a practitioner to provide treatment, therapeutic advice, or counseling for the rehabilitation of drug-dependent individuals in compliance with the State of Georgia practice acts (i.e., LPC, LAPC, LMSW, LCSW, and/or Licensed Psychologist), or certified as an addiction counselor (i.e., CAC-II, CADC, or CCADC).
