GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Physician is directly responsible to the Chief Medial Officer and takes direction from the Lead Physician in Adult Medicine.  Examines, diagnose and treats all illness in patients sixteen years of age and older.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF POSITION DUTIES:

  1. Ability to elicit comprehensive history and perform a complete physical exam.
  2. Ability to formulate a differential diagnostic impression.
  3. Ability to offer the appropriate diagnostic test and interpret the results in order to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.
  4. Incorporate an understanding of wellness, disease prevention, substance abuse, mental health and medical ethics in his/her approach to patient care. Explains the diagnosis and treatment plan to the patient in a simple and intelligent manner.
  5. Makes appropriate referral to others specialties when needed
  6. Works with other health care professionals, including nursing personnel, social workers, nutritionist, physical therapist, pharmacist and other health related occupations.
  7. Willingness to teach and train medical students.
  8. Renders health care in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
  9. Strives to see at least a minimum of 4400 patients/ year.
  10. Participates in Quality Assurance activities such as peer review audits.
  11. Participates in various committee activities.
  12. Updates and expands knowledge through continuing medical education course.
  13. All other duties as prescribed by the Lead Internist or Chief Medical Officer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff.
  2. Ability to perform simple office based procedures, i.e. I&D, suturing of laceration.
  3. Provides clinical leadership in a medical emergency
  4. Maintains up-to-date skills as they relate to advances cardiac life support.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of three (3) years of rigorous clinical training following graduation from Medical School, resulting in Board eligible status. Verification of high level of clinical competence including humanistic qualities and professional and ethical behavior. Current Georgia License. Current D.E.A. Certificate.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.  Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.  Requires exposures to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.  Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
