Job Details: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer and/or designee.  Provides continuous and comprehensive services necessary for the promotion of optimal mental health, prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders and health maintenance.  This includes the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.  The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with other on site medical and mental health providers.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  1. Works collaboratively with a physician and/or mental health provider of record to provide comprehensive mental health services to clients.
  2. Through patient evaluation, determine a differential diagnosis and plan for intervention.
  3. Adheres to standard protocol.
  4. Maintains a customer-oriented approach to meeting patient needs in an expedient manner, involving the family in the plan of care as appropriate.
  5. Maintains confidentiality and patient privacy.
  6. Documents care provided; meeting standards for chart reviews.
  7. Seeks consultations as appropriate, acts as a consultant as requested.
  8. Facilitates the process of ethical decision making as appropriate.
  9. Performs comprehensive assessments and refers patients for further care and services within the Center.
  10. Utilizes teaching learning theory with patients and their families to influence patient outcomes.
  11. Identifies learning needs of various populations and contribute to the development of educational programs to meet those needs..
  12. Provides a site for patient education.
  13. Identifies system specific problems, which require evaluation and/or change; work with appropriate staff to resolve these issues by participating in performance improvement processes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Has the ability to relate to the health care needs of the client.
  2. Has the ability to read and understand health care charting and medical procedures.
  3. Must have the ability to provide care, patience, and understanding.
  4. Has the ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally with clients, health care team members, and families.
  5. Has the ability to function independently with regards to most clinical decision making.
  6. Well versed in mental health and assessment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master of Science in Nursing, with a specialty in Psychiatric Nursing, Psychiatry, Nurse Practitioner, or related field from an accredited university. Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of Health Care Delivery.  A current license to practice in the State of Georgia. Bilingual a plus.
