GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Responsible to Lead Provider. Provides patient care and education to assigned caseload of obstetrical and gynecological patients in accordance with established midwifery practice guidelines. Educates midwifery, medical and nursing students, and nursing and resident staff in normal childbirth.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF POSITION DUTIES:
- Administers direct prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum patient services and primary care to low-to-moderate risk obstetrical and gynecological patients.
- Provides educational and other related services for well women care.
- Educates midwifery, medical and nursing students, and nursing and resident staff in normal childbirth; may provide individual and/or clinical classroom instruction.
- May perform administrative duties such as patient charting, oversight of a clinic and/or facility, or coordination of specific educational programs.
- May serve or participate on the Center’s related committees.
- Ensures strict confidentiality of patient records.
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- May be required to work on-call.
- Performs job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of midwifery theory, procedure and standards.
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.
- Ability to perform patient assessment and triage.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Knowledge of gynecological health issues and trends.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree; at least 1 year of directly related experience which may include practicum. Georgia Licensed Registered Nurse; Georgia Certified Nurse Midwife.
